The first seedlings and plantations in the Arboretums

During the next Arboretum planting season (2019-2020), softwood trees will include Atlas cedars, Nordmann and Bornmuller firs, Douglas firs, Scots pines and Scots pines. Deciduous trees include downy oak, hairy oak and small-leaved lime. The absence of seed harvesting during the autumn of 2018-2019 for selected provenances of beech and sessile oak means that we will have to postpone planting these two species until 2020-2021.

Finally, 2019 will also be devoted to finding interesting and available provenances for Lawson cypress, Oriental spruce, Oriental beech and Hungarian oak. 2019 will also be an opportunity to consider introducing other new species into the project.

The seeds ordered for the Arboretums will be delivered in the next few weeks, and orders for plants and cultivation contracts have been placed with partner nurseries.
4 volunteers were recruited from among the correspondent observers to monitor the trials.
Site preparation for the first plot to be planted (Lierneux) has been completed and staking will take place in early March. The seedlings (cedar, Nordmann and Douglas fir) will be delivered at the end of March and planting will take place in mid-April. Would you like to find out more and support the Arboretums, a project that concerns you directly?
