The 28 May 2026 - Saint-Hubert
The forest site guides for Wallonia are management tools developed at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (ULiège) as part of the five-year forest research plan and are intended for forest managers. They are based on the identification of site types and offer management recommendations tailored to each, including climate challenges. Although sites are an integral part of managers' vocabulary, who often have a good understanding of the diversity of sites within their area of responsibility, identifying the transitions between sites, their specific ecological constraints, and appropriate management methods remains a complex process involving numerous factors. The site catalogue, in particular, helps to bring order to these different factors.
During this day, we invite you to analyse different types of sites during a forest walk and discover the basics of site analysis. By observing the soil, topography, and flora, you will identify the strengths and limitations of the sites and orient your management accordingly.
