Objective
The forestry management and economic management of a forest ideally must be based on rigorous data and observations in order to make objective decisions. What is my standing timber stock, what volume of timber to put up for sale, when to trigger a thinning and how much timber to harvest during that thinning, how many stères of firewood in the logs from the last cut? how to orient my harvesting to regularize my stands… are all questions that require dendrometric measurements to answer. During this training day, we will learn how to measure standing and ground timber and use the tables and volumes calculation formulas. We will also become familiar with the concept of land area and its various applications (planting volume, clearing dosage, regeneration light requirements…). Finally, we will test the typology inventory technique, which in a short time provides a good snapshot of the population and is an excellent basis for guiding management.
