Objectives<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Douglas fir and larch are two red-wooded softwoods. These two species are very common in the Walloon region. They are usually harvested at around 120-150 cm in circumference. However, with appropriate silviculture, it is possible to grow them to much larger sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is particularly true of Douglas fir, which has the advantage of maintaining good productivity as it ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the wood industry's interest in these large softwoods? What silvicultural practices should be adopted to produce good quality wood? What impact will this have on stand management?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will try to answer these questions with specialists from TDR, the private forest and the sawmilling sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
